Theatre Arts Department produces at least 4 productions a year:
Fall Show - will cast 5 - 15 students and auditions are open to the entire student body.
This will usually be either a classic or contemporary straight play (no music) i.e. Shakespearean, Tennessee Williams, or a new work written with in the last 10 years.
The selection depends on what the rest of the season will contain.
Children's show - will cast 5 - 15 students primarily from the Theatre 1, 2, 3 and 4 classes, but possibly open auditions for some roles. This show may travel to other schools or children's hospitals to perform, as well as doing productions on campus at both the lower and upper schools. This is always a fun family event. I think parents enjoy children's shows more than the kids.
One Act plays or short plays- primarily cast from the Theatre 1, 2, 3 and 4 classes, but possibly open auditions for some roles. This play(s) concentrates on the performance, not the scenery. It will usually be done in a very minimalist style, i.e. simple set, monochromatic or basic costumes, very little, if any, lighting and sound.
SPRING MUSICAL- (Done in conjunction with the Choral and Band Departments) This will always be the biggest production of the year. Open to the entire student body. We will cast 15 - 30 students, plus 5 - 10 technical positions will be available. This show will be about the FULL SPECTICAL of the Theatre. Live Music provided by Mr. Campbell's band class, beautiful singing led by Mr. Sorrell, major emphasis will be put on lighting and sound effects. There will be very involved scenery usually provided by help from the Friends of the Arts (our parent group) and or by Mrs. Nokes' art classes. This is truly the event of the year and everyone always wants to be a part of the spring musical! Last Spring we performed an awesome production of LES MISERABLES!
