Littlejohn Engineering Associates has been chosen as the civil engineer and master planner for the new campus. This firm has also been involved with site development projects such as Pope John Paul II High School in Hendersonville, the Vanderbilt Student Life Center, Franklin Road Academy and Brentwood Academy.
Veteran architectural firm Earl Swensson Associates will design the new campus. Wendell Brown, AIA, a 16-year veteran of the company and expert in education-related construction, has been named the project manager.
Both firms bring extensive campus design experience to our project. A contractor is expected to be named in the next few weeks.
Educational and planning consultant Dr. Jack Owenby has been working with faculty, staff and trustees to compile the educational specifications for the new campus. Information such as space needed for certain tasks, their size and descriptions, and their relationships to one another are very important to the architects and engineers as they design the new Davidson Academy.
Site work, utility construction, and possibly preliminary work on the athletic fields may begin as early as this winter, with major excavation set for early next spring. According to the timeline approved by the Board of Trustees, classes could be held on the new campus by the 2008-09 school year. |
