The DAA 10-K Run and Bear Crawl on May 5th was a wonderful opportunity for many of our Davidson Academy family members to see the site of our new campus for the very first time. We are grateful to our Davidson Academy Association and the sponsors for doing such a splendid job with this event.
The new campus is beautiful, and we thank God for providing this particular place within His creation for Davidson Academy to grow and fulfill its mission as He guides us forward.
Significant progress has been made in the preparations for our relocation to Sumner County . Under Chairman Randall Toney's leadership, the Board of Trustees has launched a three-pronged approach to begin turning our vision for the future into reality by the fall of the 2009-2010 school year.
* We have quietly begun solicitations for our Forward in Faith capital campaign. Over $1 million in leadership gifts has already been pledged in support of the campaign. The funds raised in Forward in Faith are being specifically targeted toward helping provide funding for the purchase of the beautiful 76 acres in Hendersonville , for the completion of the necessary civil engineering and campus master plan, and for the important initial site preparation and required roadwork.
* A Board committee is actively working with area banks and has opened lines of communication with other institutions to explore borrowing funds through the issuance of tax-exempt bonds.
* A commercial real estate firm has been granted a conditional listing agreement to market our current campus to potential buyers. This agreement will facilitate and expedite our ongoing discussions with current suitors of the Old Hickory Blvd. campus.
The new campus will be a state-of-the-art, aesthetically appealing place of learning, with facilities to meet current and future student needs in academics, arts, and athletics, including a new Tyler Beasley Memorial Soccer Field. Davidson Academy will continue its significant emphasis on learning technology, and although we are planning for an increase in total enrollment, class sizes will remain small.
Our trustees, consultants, administrators, designers, and contractors continue to work diligently to consider every aspect of this very complex project. It is important that they work through the process thoroughly, considering every possible cost, the timing of each step, and the impact their decisions will have on our students and staff. They realize that shortcutting this part of the process could be unwise, allowing mistakes that we would be forced to live with for many years to come. They know that they must get this part right! They ask that you continue to pray for wisdom and guidance as they complete the design of the new campus and the timetable for construction. Should you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call me directly at (615) 860-5302.
Thank you for your prayers and expressions of encouragement as we make progress with DA’s strategic vision for the future. Have an outstanding summer, and may God bless you richly. |
