Fifth Grade Science Awards - May 7, 2008

Davidson Academy 5th grade Science and Technology Fair was held on Wednesday, May 7. Students had worked in groups to research a topic, form a hypothesis to answer a question about their topic, design an experiment to show the answer, analyze their data, and draw a conclusion. Then each group had prepared a Power Point slide show of the entire process, including pictures of their experiment. They also prepared a presentation of their PowerPoint show for two judges. Mrs. Sharon Bracy and Mr. Bert Jergensen, our judges, were very complementary about the hard work and excellent presentation from each group.

Winners were announced:

• Honorable Mention went to an experiment on “Taste” by Clare Jolly, Abbie Uselton, Sarah Werner.


• Third place was a tie between an experiment on “Bread Mold” by Cody-Lee Aaron, John Broadwell, Eva Marie Jones, Jacquelyn Stone and an experiment on “Bridge Strength” by Karl Beck, Jay Greer, Turner Smith


• Second Place went to an experiment on “Detergents” by Matthew Hardee, Jackson Preston, Ryan Russell


• First Place went to an experiment on “Friction” by Reece Christiansen, Will Clay, Ben Thompson, Luke Whittington
