This year’s Bear Pride Golf Classic, presented by Nationwide Insurance, was held on Monday, May 7th, at
The Club at Fairvue Plantation in Gallatin. The event was blessed with a bounty of fair weather,
gorgeous surroundings, and delicious dining and good company for our almost 200 golfers.
The tournament successfully raised bountiful funding for Davidson Academy students,
too – close to $50,000 for our annual campaign in support of academic programs across all grade levels!
Landon Albert (4th Grade) was again the youngest player in the tournament and his team came in one point
shy of a 1st Place, 1st Flight finish. Of special note is that Landon’s team also included Sarah Jacobs,
former women’s golf star of both Davidson Academy and Vanderbilt University. Steven Means headed a
foursome comprised of Davidson Academy alumni who shared 1st Place, 1st Flight honors with the
team from Coca-Cola Bottling Co.
This was the first time we’d ever had two teams whose tie
could not be broken by the steps stated in the Rule Sheet – and the first time the Pro at Fairvue
Plantation had ever experienced that situation! Congratulations to all of the winners on a very
close competition. For more information about the golf tournament, visit The Bear Classic Web site.
