- Where in the World is That?
The National Geographic Geography Bee presented a very challenging academic exercise for thirty Davidson Academy students from 4th – 7th grades. Mrs. Lori Arrington, LEAP Director, organized the rigorous competition held on Tuesday morning, January 15th, in the Lower School library. Dr. Bill Chaney, Headmaster, presented the questions to the panel of students, with Mrs. Janice Baldwin, Lower School Head, and Mr. Clif Johnson, Lower School Assistant Head, serving as judge and timekeeper. A number of other administrators, faculty, and parents watched the various rounds of questioning and often found themselves stumped for the right answers. It would be fair to say that everyone involved learned a lot, and also learned that there is a lot to be learned about the geography of our state, our region, our nation, and the world!
Matthew Hardee, 5th grade, son of Jeff and Marissa Hardee, was our overall Champion, with Jacob Keen, also of 5th grade, son of Starlis and Michele, earning the Runner Up spot. Matthew will go on to state level competition, consisting of a written examination. Winners at the state level have the opportunity to move on to the ultimate national competition.
