Have you ever wanted to write a song, but don't know where to start? Or, if you've written some songs before, do you want to learn how to get better? If you've answered "yes" to either one of these questions, then this is the class for you! In the 'real world', most of the top songs are collaborative efforts. Together, we will take a look at what makes up a great song...then create one ourselves! This is a great opportunity for students to develop teamwork skills with others while building their own sense of creative self-confidence.  This is a class for beginner/intermediate songwriters. Prior experience is not necessary to enroll.
During the camp, we will begin by learning parts of a song’s anatomy (verse, chorus, bridge, etc.) We will learn all about how different parts work together to create a composition. We'll learn about chord progressions and how we can use them to convey emotions in music to make a lyric sound sad/happy/excited/angry, etc. We will discuss rhyme schemes and how rhyme factors into a song lyric. We will look at identifying different rhyme schemes in various songs and learn about different ways we can make words rhyme (with fun rhyming games!). We will also learn how to co-write by working on writing a song together as a class and writing our own songs...everyone is encouraged to participate!
