Meet Sophie Koester

Grade: 12th
How long have you been a student at DA?
My first year at DA was 4th grade so this will be my 9th year here!
What is your favorite thing about DA?
My favorite thing about DA is the community. It feels like one big family where everyone can grow and be supported.
Which class has been your favorite and why?
My favorite class was 10th grade English with Mrs. Higgins. I loved the way she taught and I had so much fun in that class.
How would you describe the classroom environment at DA?
In every classroom, the teachers are passionate about helping us and making learning fun. Everyone is very supportive and encouraging when you need help.
What is your favorite DA tradition?
My favorite is homecoming week! Dress up days, hallway decorating, and pep rally activities make for a really fun week where everyone comes together and gets excited for the football game on Friday.
What activities are you involved in at DA?
I am a part of the Davidson Tennis team as well as Key Club, Tennis Club, and Reach Out for Women Club.
Choose a DA activity or team that you listed above and describe your experience and how it has impacted you.
In tennis, we always have so much fun. We all support each other and don’t take ourselves too seriously. It makes for a really fun team.
Davidson Academy is a God-focused school.  How does that impact life at DA and what does it mean to you?
Since Davidson is a God-focused school, awe can openly talk about God anywhere and everywhere. Many teachers and classmates use this to pray for people, tell about God, and encourage everyone in their faith.
What would you tell someone who was interested in attending Davidson Academy?
I would tell them that Davidson is a really special place, not only because of its academic opportunities but also because of the camaraderie. Everyone at Davidson is encouraging, supportive, and kind. It is a great place to grow in your faith and find community.
What has DA taught you about being a leader?
Davidson has taught me that being a leader is not always the person standing in front of everyone. Leadership can come in many ways. Whether that can be leading a friend through a hard time, leading behind the scenes, or leading yourself when times are tough.
What activities do you participate in outside of school?
Outside of Davidson, I enjoy playing tennis, reading, and spending time with friends and family. I work at a children’s boutique where I spend every Saturday. I value time with my four sibling, friends, and parents.
