Name: Karmyn Smith
Grade: 10th
How long have you been a student at DA?
This is my 2nd year at DA
What is your favorite thing about DA?
My favorite thing about DA is all the opportunities I have as a student. I’ve been able to take the PreACT and PSAT and experience things at school that I might not have had the opportunity to somewhere else.
Which class has been your favorite and why?
My favorite class was my 8th grade science class with Coach Clayton. He made his classroom a fun and safe place letting his students explore science through their own imagination.
How would you describe the classroom environment at DA?
The classroom environment at DA is fun, engaging, and still focused on learning. My teachers make their classes interactive and enjoyable, but they also make sure we really understand what we’re learning and don’t just memorize things for a test.
What is your favorite DA tradition?
The homecoming pep rallies.
What activities are you involved in at DA?
I am involved in the Varsity track and volleyball teams as well as many clubs, including beta club, Leave a Legacy, Comedy, and Crochet Club.
Choose a DA activity or team that you listed above and describe your experience and how it has impacted you.
My first year being on the varsity track team as a freshman I was welcomed by coach Williams and Coach Porter. They taught me all the movements and ways to throw shot put and discus. While the coaches taught me, I was with many senior girls who were also very friendly and made me less nervous about playing track. This impacted me in an incredibly positive way because in my first ever season of trying this new sport, I made it to regionals. I think the support of my DA coaches and teammates made all the difference.
Davidson Academy is a God-focused school. How does that impact life at DA and what does it mean to you?
This impacts me as a student in my new testament class with Mrs. Breece. I enjoy studying the Bible with her and learning about her life as a follower of Jesus as well.
What would you tell someone who was interested in attending Davidson Academy?
That DA is a great school for upcoming and new believers in Christ. It’s also a great place to learn, have new opportunities, and also have fun.
What has DA taught you about being a leader?
DA has taught me that if I have a different opinion then others I can voice it and there is most likely to be a change. Also DA has taught me to not be a follower but step aside and do what I think is right,
What activities do you participate in outside of school?
I participate in praise dancing at my church mount Zion and helping in my community.
