    Latin I is an introductory course designed to immerse students in the fundamentals of the Latin language and the rich cultural heritage of ancient Rome. Students will develop skills in reading, writing, and translating Latin, focusing on essential vocabulary, grammar, and sentence structure. The course emphasizes the connections between Latin and English, enhancing students' understanding of English vocabulary, especially in academic and scientific contexts. Additionally, students will explore Roman history, mythology, daily life, and cultural practices, gaining insights into the lasting influence of Roman civilization on the modern world. This course lays a strong foundation for further study in Latin and the classical humanities.

  • Latin II

    Grade level: 10,11,12

    Prerequisite: Latin I

    Latin II is a continuation of developing translation skills, vocabulary, and complex grammatical structures. Students will continue to read (adapted) selections from the masterpieces of Latin literature in chronological order (3rd Century BC – 6th Century AD). Additionally, students will deepen their knowledge of Roman history, mythology, daily life, and cultural practices.

  • Spanish I

    Prerequisite: None

    Spanish I is a course where the students will progress in the comprehension of the foreign language, Spanish, starting from zero. The use of a variety of comprehensible steps will facilitate the understanding of the target language. The basics of grammar, vocabulary and sentence structuring are combined to develop communicative skills and a cultural awareness of the Spanish speaking culture. In addition, students learn Spanish prayers and bible verses that go hand in hand with the Davidson Academy mission.
  • Spanish II

    Grade level: 10,11,12
    Credits: 1
    Prerequisite: Spanish I

    Spanish II is a communicative, comprehensible input class. This course will be taught using techniques such as TPR Storytelling (Total Physical Response Storytelling) and comprehensible input. Students will develop their Spanish proficiency through extensive interaction in the target language with continued study of grammar, verb conjugation, vocabulary, and sentence structuring to further develop communicative skills and cultural awareness.
  • Spanish III Honors

    Grade level: 11,12
    Credits: 1
    Prerequisite: Spanish II
     
    In Spanish III, the students will increase their comfort in the target language as they improve in their reading, listening, writing, and speaking skills. Students continue learning about the fantastic culture of the Spanish speaking countries. Students also learn a variety of bible verses that align with the spiritual growth of the Davidson Academy student.
  • Spanish IV Honors

    Grade level: 11,12
    Credits: 1
    Prerequisite: Spanish III Honors
     
    In this course students will improve their proficiency across all modes and skills of communication: interpretational, interpersonal and presentational through reading, writing, listening and speaking. We will explore the Hispanic world ‑ its’ traditions and current events as well as make comparisons with our own culture. Spanish IV culminates with the opportunity to earn the Tennessee State Seal of Biliteracy.
