Meet Maddie Hall

Grade: 12th
How long have you been a student at DA?
I came in 6th grade, so 7 years.
What is your favorite thing about DA?
Senior privileges, such as being allowed to leave school early or arrive late if we have 1st or 7th period Study Hall, being able order food from off-campus certain days of the year and being allowed to wear college t-shirts or sweatshirts on Bear Wear days.
Which class has been your favorite and why?
AP Biology because Mrs. Chapman would always make sure we completely understood what we were learning, and she made class super fun.
How would you describe the classroom environment at DA?
The classroom environment is pretty great. The teachers are always willing to help me in any way I need. If I don’t understand something, the teachers will help me one-on-one until I am confident I understand it. Some teachers are harder on us as students, but they are the best teachers so it’s worth it.
What is your favorite DA tradition?
Homecoming
What activities are you involved in at DA?
Student Council – Senior Class Vice President, Varsity Baseball Manager
Choose a DA activity or team that you listed above and describe your experience and how it has impacted you.
I love baseball more than pretty much anything with the exception of God and my family, so being the manager of the team has been amazing. I felt like I was in an environment where I was welcomed and a part of a family. I developed close friendships with the guys and I know if I ever needed them to, they would always have my back.
Davidson Academy is a God-focused school.  How does that impact life at DA and what does it mean to you?
I was raised in a Christian household so I always knew that God loved me and Jesus died for my sins. But since coming to DA, attending Bible classes and chapel, and being in community with everyone, I feel like my faith has grown. I like the fact that DA is a God-focused school because it means I can openly talk about my faith with my teachers and classmates.
If you are a senior, what are your plans for college and do you know what you want to study?
I plan to go to the University of Tennessee at Knoxville to double-major in Kinesiology and Sports Administration.
What would you tell someone who was interested in attending Davidson Academy?
I would say that we truly are a family. You can always have someone to talk to or someone to listen when you need it.
What has DA taught you about being a leader?
I think it was when I realized my class needed new leadership that I stepped up and into that role. DA has taught me to recognize when it is necessary to be the leader but also when it’s time to hang back and follow. This year, I am taking our new Athletic Leadership course with Coach Kelsey and it’s taught me so much about how to be a better leader. I’ve learned that great leaders bring positive energy and encourage others to build their team up.
What activities do you participate in outside of school?
Church and work at Golly G’s
