Davidson Academy is dedicated to providing a rigorous learning environment where Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) converge.  Our mission is to equip the next generation of problem-solvers and innovators by fostering a collaborative climate that encourages critical thinking, creativity, and hands-on experiential learning. 


STEAM education refers to an integrated approach to teaching and learning that focuses on science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics.  The goal of STEAM education is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of these disciplines and how they intersect with the real world.  According to the U.S. Department of Education, “In an ever-changing, increasingly complex world, it’s more important than ever that our nation’s youth are prepared to bring knowledge and skills to solve problems, make sense of information, and know how to gather and evaluate evidence to make decisions.”
Our teachers continuously look for new and innovative ways to engage our students in meaningful learning experiences, and STEAM integration is just one of the many tools they use.  From preschool to high school, our students participate in STEAM learning opportunities that help them gain the skills necessary to be successful not only in academics but in their future careers. 
Our elementary students attend weekly STEAM lab classes where they participate in challenges that teach the engineering design process which helps them think creatively about solving problems.  Other related arts classes which include Art, Library, Music, PE, Spanish, and Technology regularly implement STEAM related principles and practices. Students also actively engage in inquiry based STEAM projects and opportunities in their regular classrooms where teachers strive to make connections between the content they teach and the real world.  
In middle school, our teachers are committed to fostering interdisciplinary learning experiences that align with the mission and expectations of our STEAM program.  The lessons they teach reinforce our belief in hands-on, experiential learning.  Students also have the option to take elective courses like Art, Robotics, Creative Discovery, Destination Imagination, Technology, and Video Production that emphasize STEAM principles and promote creativity and critical thinking.

In grades 9-12, students benefit from a strong STEAM program that extends beyond a robust math and science curriculum, permeating throughout all disciplines. Whether in literature, history, or the arts, students engage in interdisciplinary learning experiences that emphasize creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving. Alongside our rigorous core courses, students have access to a diverse range of STEAM elective options, including electronic music, digital arts, computer science, and more. These electives provide students with the opportunity to explore their interests and passions while honing their skills in STEAM-related fields. 
At all levels, field trips and guest speakers further enhance STEAM learning for our students and align to our curriculum, standards, and learning objectives.  According to the U.S Bureau of Labor and Statistics, jobs in science, technology, engineering, and math are projected to grow by almost 11% by 2031.  These opportunities engage and inspire students and help showcase the relevance and importance of STEAM in society and the workforce.
