Lexi Wakefield Named Head Coach for Lady Bears Volleyball Program

NASHVILLE – Davidson Academy is excited to announce that Lexi Wakefield will join the DA Family as the new head coach for the Lady Bears volleyball team.

Lexi attended Walters State Community College in Morristown, Tennessee from 2018-2020. While playing volleyball at Walters State, she earned 1st Team All-District and MVP honors. Before that, she earned All-District honors all four years of high school at Portland High School, including co-MVP her senior year in 2018. Lexi was the libero that year on the first ever team to win a state championship for Portland.

“We thrilled to have Lexi join the DA family and lead our volleyball program moving forward,” said Athletic Director Kevin Harper.  “I’m excited to see how she will incorporate her passion for the game of volleyball along with a winning mentality for elevating player development with our student athletes on and off the court.”

Most recently, she has been coaching with the Ethos club volleyball program for the 16-1s and the 17-1s the last four years. Lexi originally played for Ethos for six years, five of which she made the elite teams.

“Ethos has helped shape me into the player and now coach that I am,” said Wakefield.  “I am huge on being a good teammate in sports and in life. I am so excited to work with the Davidson Academy program and hopefully help these girls become not only better players, but better people as well.”

Lexi just got engaged and she has two dogs named Rosie and Rory. Prior to accepting the volleyball coaching position at DA, she already had some familiarity with our school community.  Her younger brothers currently attend Davidson Academy – Colton Sanders (DA c/o 2026) and Brody Sanders (DA c/o 2027).
